INSIGHT-As Congress looks away, US tiptoes toward exporting a gas bounty

Reuters -- In a bitterly divided U.S.
political environment, there's at least one thing Republicans
and Democrats can agree on: Avoid a public showdown on natural
gas exports, arguably the most important energy policy decision
in recent memory.
While fluctuating gasoline prices, the Keystone pipeline and
the fight over fracking steal headlines, the question of how
much of the newfound U.S. shale gas bounty should be shared with
the rest of the world goes largely without comment or coverage
-- despite holding far wider and longer-lasting consequences.
The reason is clear: unlike the relatively simple,
black-and-white issues that politicians often favor and voters
connect to, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is deep, deep gray.
It affects a tangled web of constituents, from Big Oil to

As has been said, we've got lots of it, tax the export and help our dollar compete on the world market, it's a win-win-win

Government is not the problem. Greed is the problem. We have greed by the producers and greed by the consumers. It is the perfect storm. Why conserve when everybody is in the game solely for themselves? We have too many people who think that it is all about me. Never mind that such a way of living is the path to destruction. Are the short term gains we chase after really justified, considering the long term effects? In the movie, "the perfect storm", they kept fishing because the fishing was good, and then they ran into a large wave that buried their butts. Who put them into that position? And, how many dollars did they get for all of those fish that went to the bottom with them? You may say that was only a movie, and that is true. But, how many "fish" are we going to catch before we run into a very serious problem that overwhelms us?

stevekr - "Drill Here! Drill Now! Pay Less!"

Unfortunately, drilling here doesn't result in paying less. Oil is a world market. And it isn't economical to drill for NG at current price levels.

Dang if you do and dang if you don't. We have a huge surplus, and the only soultion to keep producing it is by exporting it. We could use the extra money fron a higher export tax.

We have such a surplus of natural gas that it just makes sense to export it no matter what it's source is.

Government should not ever be in business! FLAT!!! If Chrysler can't compete, then let it go under. If GMC can't compete, let it go under. If Middle East countries want grain, they should pay for it with oil, not be given vast amounts grown by farmers subsidized by the fed. Etc. etc. etc. As for Congress...all they care about is padding their own pockets/wallets! EVER!!!
