The problem with Chinese clean energy is that an hour after you use it, you need to use it again.

Yeah, the world has many armpits, and rear ends. For some reason I liked this article. But I may need more time, time to think.

It would be a surprise, indeed. They don't have a very solid record in being "clean", much less caring about it.
It has yet to be proven that the huge Three Gorges Dam project will not come back to haunt them in various ways - the fact that the dam sits on a seismic fault, for one.
They run to 'solutions' when they need to think first.

Why do you think China exploded on the world scene in economics? The Gnomes of finance invested there because of the lack of enviromental controls and cheap labor. I have been to China 5 different times and they have very beautiful cities there but they also have a number of arm pits.

This would be a surprise. Could it be that they only want to sell it to the world and not use it themselves?

At their current rate of a new coal-fired electric plant a week this change should take some time.

CumminsFanOH -- right on! The Chinese won't discover clean energy, they'll just wait until the American's create the technologies and have their industrial spies steal it -- they've been doing that for decades, for both our industrial and military secrets. Why change now?

I disagree bguz. I say we should have a minimum global standard for every country, like the 'cap & trade' system but with every nation involved. America can & should lead the way to a clean future, not the Chinese.

China is also using solar and other green energy. They are now operating giant solar plant. So they are inovative in the green energy. India using CNG for buses and Rickshaw. India is now having Six new Hydro powers plants, getting oil from elgy grown in most remote area and other sources. So it is egoestic to say we are going to clean their clock. China is cleaning our clock by supporting the trillons of dollar debt. And the way congress and Obama administration spending money it will be 6 to 8 trillion dollars. So china will own USA in few years, then tell me Who is cleaning the clock"?

PissedCanuck and TheSnowstorm...
Agree! China has leverage over their citizens to clean-up the US doesn't have. There is little discussion or big-time opposition. They are already spending more than $300B. It is also obvious that China is way ahead of the US in the Green industries. We need to be building, on a large scale, wind turbines, solar cells, and state-of-the-art batteries for EV's.
Whether posters agree on environmental issues...not too many disagree on our need to jump-start industry....and that will take investment capital as well as entrepreneurs and excellent engineers.
