Great Lakes may start seeing relief from gasageddon

GasBuddy Blog -- I've been peppered with questions in the last few days asking when the Great Lakes region would see relief from the intense gasoline price increases they've been seeing, so it's with happiness that I report we're starting to see initial signs of a cooldown in gas prices in the region.

While energy markets are open, this will be subject to change as the day wears on, but at current writing, wholesale costs look like they could finish the day down double digits per gallon, which certainly would be welcome relief to the region.

Gasoline prices across the region rose significantly last week with average prices in Indiana rising 30c/gal, Michigan rising 24c/gal, Ohio rising 29c/gal, Illinois rising 35c/gal, Wisconsin rising...

It's been difficult to plan trips to MI to visit family because the gas prices up there have been so outrageous. It takes up a good chunk of vacation budget.

Thirty to forty cent jump here in the last day, so I guess we MAY not be seeing any relief.

gasokie: greed is an excess of the desire to get top dollars. Look at the profit margins that Pig Oil reaps while the rest of the economy is suffering. There's no reason to drive the prices at the pump b/c the barrel prices have not fluctuated sufficiently to warrant a 60+ cent increase in one month. That's solely greed. Pig Oil raises prices because they can be raised (since the consumer will pay).

A nasty word, greed. All of us want top dollar for our wages and our products. Fires, floods, pipelines breaking are not results of plots. Just stuff that happens. If you think an oil company is going to drop prices just because you think they are greedy or that you think, as does Dear Leader in Korea, that speculators are pigs who should be put to death then you are just wrong.

Supply and demand works every time and though it "ain't" foolproof, it's better than any system ever invented to date...a whole bunch better than the communist systems proposed repeatedly in these blogs by bloggers who may not realize what they are really proposing when they tear into what they call "speculators." It's obvious they really don't understand the market systems.

prices have jumped over 50 cents in the past month. No reason for it. Nearing August 2008 ranges and there's no reason out there for it. Oh, wait, there is,... greed.

this is why we need back up plans, because any number of events or attacks could cause a disruption in distribution.

Double digits per gallon probably means 0.10$/gal, not 0.99$/gal... After a rise of 0.24-0.35$/gal, that's not as much relief as being simply less gouged.

Somehow I doubt that the price will come down anywhere near as fast as it climbed, even should all supply restrictions be removed.

Big Oil will raise fuel prices if they want to and/or will have a refinery undergo 'unplanned maintenance' when they want to. There is nothing you can do, Big oil will maintain its profits without regard to your well being or your possible economic problems.
The fuel price will slowly go down with the increased supply but with any disruption in supply and the price will go up like a rocket.
What region will be next with Big Oil's gouging and gasageddon of the public?
Gasageddon, Carageddon, Cornageddon, Droughtageddon, Stormageddon, Hurricaneageddon, Metorageddon. Oh, the Humanity!
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very safe, reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost.
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

Keep your tanks and gas cans full for the next 5 or 6 weeks. High prices and spot shortages are possible.

Eliminate the EPA regulations and they may be able to get gas from other places. Supply an demand work but there is no need to make it harder to supply the gas.
